Sufism - the Mystical Path of Islam

Sufism - the Mystical Path of Islam

The exhibition opens on Friday, September 2, 2011, and closes on Sunday, April 8, 2012.

Mysterious signs, lucky amulets, love poems, dancing dervishes, and spikes for piercing the skin. The David Collection is opening a special exhibition on Islamic mysticism – Sufism – which often forms a contrast to Orthodox Islam.

The Sufi’s goal is to become one with God, and his path takes him through meditation, trances, and self-denial, through asceticism, music, and recitation.

The special exhibition focuses on the impression that this religious movement has made on fine art, poetry, and decorative art in the Islamic world.

Sufism – the Mystical Path of Islam was curated by Joachim Meyer and Peter Wandel.
