Most of the Chinese works of art that can be associated with a Muslim context because of Arabic inscriptions do not differ conspicuously from other local crafts. This vessel, decorated with a lion and with typical Chinese dragon handles, is a good example of the pronounced Far Eastern influence on Chinese Islamic decorative art.
The brief Arabic inscription was written in Sini, the preferred script type used for the Koran by Chinese Muslims and on the wall decorations of their mosques.
